Disability Leave @ 34 weeks

32 weeks

33 weeks

So, I got my wish and was put on disability at the 34 week mark! It was actually the suggestion of my MD, when we went in for our last check-up she asked her RN when I could be put on leave and the RN and I looked at each other and then to my MD and told her she was calling the shots! She said whenever I was ready she would write me out for back pain and edema....so I didn't put up too much of a fight! :) This way I scored and got all 3 winter holidays off! Unfortunately I will be right at the 36 week mark the week of Christmas, so we won't be able to fly back home to Iowa. But....we have planned a little mini vacation for next week....after J finishes his finals we are taking off to Lake Tahoe for 4 days and 3 nights! Not that I can go skiing or snowboarding, but we will be able to have some time to ourselves before little miss Maya makes her debut!

So, for those of you wondering how the whole diability thing works....we pay into a supplemental disability plan, so after the initial waiting period is finished we will get paid 70% of our regular pay, without taxes! So, when we initially signed up, the options were for a 7, 30, 60 and 90 day wait....well at the time we weren't planning on having a family so we chose the 30 day wait. And the disability pays until you are 6 weeks post partum for a vaginal delivery, or 8 weeks for a c section. So, for us, the sooner we could be put on disability the sooner we would be able to get the full benefit of our plan. This way....the plan will start paying by the time we are 38 weeks thru my post partum period. If I had waited and worked till I was 38-40 weeks, we still would have had to wait the 30 days before the disability started....so the plan would only actually pay for a few weeks after she was born....do you follow? So....anyways....it just means that I get MORE time off that is PAID! :)

It seems that it is the norm out here in California for nurses to get put on disability around this time in their pregnancies! I can just remember back to when my fellow Boise girls worked pretty much right up until their due dates! You were all troopers! Not that I would have been unable to do that....it is just nice that I won't have to! Plus, it is pretty scary being pregnant during this H1N1 epidemic!

32 week ultrasound update

So, even thought my belly looks "tiny" to some people it is holding a 4 lb 9 oz baby! She is right on target....even maybe a little bit bigger than most 32 weekers....so the scary thing is that if she were to double her weight between now and delivery we could be looking at a 9 pounder! AGH! hopefully since the measurements are just "estimates" she won't be THAT big! I would be happy with a 6-7 pounder to start! :) Unfortunately we weren't really able to get any good pics of her because she is already head down and face back towards my spine. So that was kind of a bummer....but the MD said it looks like she has some hair already and even questioned J and I if we had curly hair when we were born! How can she tell something like that?!?!? It was funny!

Baby Bump Progression Pics

I thought it was about time to post some more baby bump pics! She is getting bigger, but not absolutely huge yet! I went in for an appt at 29 weeks and my doctor said I was measuring a little bit small for her gestation....so we are going to get another ultrasound! We will go in on Tuesday morning to see our precious peanut again! My doctor told me she thinks my abdominal muscles are just so tight they are holding her in! But...this way we will get to see how big she is and how much amniotic fluid I have, and also her position, so I am not complaining! I have still been feeling really great! A friend at work is planning a baby shower luncheon for me on December 13th, so that is super exciting! Jason is about 3 weeks away from graduating and couldn't be happier! On my days off I am just taking it easy around home, and I started reading the Twilight Saga series! So many of my co-workers have raved about it, so I thought I would try them out! I just started the 3rd book! They are fast reads! I am trying to think of things I want to do for myself before baby comes, because once she is here, things are going to CHANGE!

Maya's Nursery

So....we aren't keeping any secrets to ourselves this time around....we are planning on naming our baby Maya Lynn Silber and this is what her nursery looks like so far! :)

I bought this rocking chair off of Craigslist for $70, normally it is $130 at IKEA
We already had this dresser we pulled out of our closet that we bought from Craigslist last year for $30 I think. And, well, the rug I did splurge on and bought from Target for $100, but used our gift card money we got from our renewal of vows!

The mobile hanging over by the door will need to be put up on the ceiling above her crib, but it was a hand-me down from my great friend Ashley who took our renewal of vows pictures! She was a jackpot in the hand-me down department! She ended up giving me her crib bumper, skirt, quilt, mobile, and a ton of baby girl clothes all the way through 12 months!

After much debate I went with a sleigh crib that only converts to a toddler bed or day bed....initially I was going to get one that converts to a full bed but I think we are planning on having another baby by the time Maya grows out of her toddler bed, so....this is what I got! I think this is the only furniture I have bought new and I actually got it on sale with free shipping from Amazon for $330, the mattress was $70, and like I said....most of the bedding FREE!

This other dresser we have I bought off of craigslist for $40 and almost died when I saw it because it matches the other dresser we had already....they are from IKEA but this set is no longer sold there....so I was so LUCKY to find it and buy it! ;) I had to keep telling Jason what a great deal it was to convince him to let me buy it....since I think it is one of a kind these days and wouldn't you know that literally 5 days later the same exact dresser was up for sale on Craigslist again, but they wanted $80 for it! So I felt GREAT at least knowing we got a steal of a deal!
So all of her dressers are FILLED with clothes already, since she is going to be 8 months behind Ty & Tracy's baby we have already received, and are going to get a lot of sweet hand-me downs! When mom and dad Luneburg came out they had to bring 2 extra suitcases filled with all of Kenday's old clothes!

This changing table is originally from Pottery Barn ($350) and I think is 3 years old, but...I got it off of craigslist for $65 and the lady even delivered it to our apartment because when we went to pick it up it wouldn't fit into the Audi! It came with the changing pad and cover, but I bought a new cover. I bought the baskets from IKEA...I think those were almost as much as I paid for the changing table, but well worth it!

Penelope crib sheet from Pottery Barn only $16
Free aquarium crib toy from my soon to be sister in law Tracy

Crib set so far...need a quilt still

Crib quilt by Pottery Barn I want to get!

So....Jason has promised that once he finishes school in December he will paint some sort of a mural on the wall behind her crib...this is what I found online that I really like...we will see if he comes through on his promise....if not I think we will probably buy some of those wooden letters and spell out her name on the wall behind her crib.

I also need to get window treatments for her windows and some pictures to put in her frames but I still have plenty of time for that! I didn't want to go too girly, but it is definitely a girl's room! The paint color is Benjamin Moore's au natura color called baby's mittens! Jason has pretty much let me do everything I want to her room....not that I have asked for that much input, but he says he really likes it! (which is good because I don't know that there will be any changing it now!)

The kitties have been really interested in what is going on in her room and love to be in there, but the door is closed as of today...the room is clean and I want to minimize the kitty hair in there! They both loved to sit in the rocker, which is kind of funny. Meaka has become more attached, needing to sit on my lap all the time..I think she may know that those days are limited! But for now...these are our two sleeping beauties...Meaka & Milo.

P.S. Has anyone ever done the necklace trick....it is an old wives tale. if you hold your hand out palm up and dip a necklace to the side of your palm up and down 13 times and then hold it over your palm and wait to see if the necklace goes in a circle or back and forth it is supposedly predicting the sex of the kids you will have and how many you will have as well....

so for example....my friend did it to me and the first time it went in a circle, then you dip the necklace 13 times again and then hold it over your palm and the second time it went in a circle again....and then you dip again 13 times and hold over your palm and it went back and forth for me.....and then she dipped again 13 times and held it over my palm and the necklace didn't move....just hung there, so that means no more kids.....so according to this necklace trick I am supposedly having 2 girls and then a boy.....

The crazy thing about it all is that right now there are 5 of us pregnant in our PICU and it has predicted all of us to be right so far....and my one friend that doesn't want to have kids....it didn't go in a circle or go back and forth....it didn't do anything....so weird! Now obviously I don't know if I actually believe in this because I believe in God and His plan for me and our family, but it was just really interesting! Plus....the chinese gender predictor was wrong for me! Or....maybe we are going to have a BIG surprise when she is born and mabye she will be a HE!

Baby Bump Progression Pics

26 weeks

27 weeks

Already at 28 weeks...still need to take my pic for this week, but so far everyone tells me my bump is tiny! Hopefully that is a good thing...because I know it is only going to get bigger! :) It is starting to get harder at work because there doesn't seem to be very many kids I can take care for as we are starting to fill up with a bunch of H1N1 patients and we still have yet to even get our vaccines! One of my co-workers who is 2 weeks behind me is already out on modified disability because our unit is having a hard time accommodating us....so hopefully, fingers crossed I won't be forced to go out early. I might have to volunteer to work in NICU if it starts getting even more infectious!
Mom and Dad Luneburg came out to visit the second week of October and helped us get a little more settled in our new apartment! Dad helped knock some things off my honey-do list like hanging up cabinets, curtain brackets, etc. And we painted the baby's room! We got our crib the other day and are in the process of putting it together, so when that is put together I will post pics of her nursery! It is turning out beautifully! So far I have been able to craigslist for so many things in the nursery, it is awesome the things people sell here in the city for a fraction of the full price!

It's A GIRL!!!!

our little girl at 20 weeks

20 week baby bump
And...apparently people still don't know I am pregnant! the other night at work one of my co-workers was telling me to raise the bed up so I don't have to bend my baby bump and the patient's mom was like, "oh are you expecting?" and I said, yes, I am already 5 1/2 months pregnant! ha ha....I don't know if that is a good thing a bad thing that people still can't quite tell yet? It is VERY noticeable to ME! And....in the last week or so I have been feeling a lot of movement! It is so exciting to actually FEEL something now! Before when I was like 19 weeks I felt little flutterings or bubbles and now I definitely can tell when she is kicking or turning around! How exciting! And Jason has been able to feel her move for a few weeks now too....so it isn't just my imagination! It is starting to become REAL! We bought our first bit of furniture for the baby room now that we can see the floors! So, now I have a rocking chair...just need a dresser, crib and possibly a changing table! Mom & Dad Luneburg are coming out to visit in a few weeks and I am hoping they may help me paint! :)

Renewal of Vows August 22nd, 2009

A great friend of ours from high school, Ashley Hill, took some amazing pictures of our special day for us! We only had a few hours or maybe even less to getaway for some scenic shots, but the ones we got turned out really well! Thank you so much Ashley! We love you!

Our hand written wedding vows to each other

Jason, you may state your vows to Jenna:

Jenna, the moment you came into my life the world took on a new meaning. You are a gift from God, one so perfect, pure, and wonderful that nothing else compares. I am eternally grateful that you are mine. I never knew coming into this life that I would be so blessed to receive a love so deep, so devoted, so precious as the love you give to me. Words cannot compare to the love I feel for you. You are my everything, my one, my only. I promise to you and all before us that I will be your everything that God wants me to be for you. Your strength in time of need, your comfort in troubled times, your devoted servant and provider. God has given us to each other and we will serve God together as one. I will forever be your true and faithful husband for the rest of our lives and eternity!

Your love FOREVER,
Your Husband,
Jason

Jenna, you may state your vows to Jason:

Jason Alan Silber, you are the love of my life, my best friend, my soul mate and all I could have ever dreamed of. You are God’s perfect gift to me and have been an indescribable blessing to my life. I never imagined I could love someone so deeply with such total devotion, until I met you. I believe with my whole heart that God has chosen us from the beginning of our time to share as one and to be one – one love, one life, and one heart. Thank you for taking me as I am, loving me so unconditionally and welcoming me into your heart.
I stand here today on this beautiful September morning before our loved ones and take you as my husband. I vow to try with the guidance of God, to be everything he wants me to be for you. I promise to love you always, to be an active listener, to nourish you with my praise, to be supportive of your goals, to never take you for granted, to hold you close when you need to be held and kiss away your tears, to laugh with you when you laugh and to always be your safe haven. I promise to be faithful to you and cherish you with my whole being.
I give you everything that I am and everything that I have is yours from this moment forth. My unconditional love for you will outlast everything and it will stand when all else has fallen. I promise this as my solemn vow before God and our families. Jason, I give myself to you totally, unreservedly, and eternally for as long as we both shall live.

Your Wife,
Jenna Lynn

New Dute Date: January 17th

At our latest visit to the doctor we found out that they moved up our due date based on our first ultrasound, so now I am almost 16 weeks already! and oddly enough I think I started showing overnight! Weird! Luckily I have only gained 1/2 pound so far! Trying to keep it within reason! But def won't be fitting into my beautiful wedding dress for our wedding reception August 22nd!

July 25, 2009

July 15th We are officially going to be parents!

After keeping pretty quiet for the last 3 months we are so excited to finally announce that we are expecting! We definitely were not planning on starting our family this early but feel very blessed! We thought we were preventing pregnancy, but apparently God has other plans for us! I distinctly had a conversation with Jason about 2 months ago (ironic to think about it now because we were pregnant at the time) asking him when we could "start trying" and we had both agreed that May 2010 would be a good time....well sounds like January 2010 sounded better and that is when this little peanut is supposed to join this world!

I had been teasing Jason each month since we have been married about my period being a day to two days late ever since I switched from birth control pills to the nuvaring. But.... in May when I was 4 days late I started to wonder....so we jokingly went to the store to get a couple EPT tests just to put aside our wonders.....without even thinking I was pregnant I went in to take the test and instantly it turned positive.....you are supposed to wait up to 2 minutes for the result but as soon as it was positive a little grin krept onto my face! Jason was on the phone at the time so I made him get off and told him the test was positive! His facial expression was priceles....total shock.....he said "what, whoa....ok.....what!?!" "aren't you supposed to wait 2 minutes or something?" "whoa.....ok.....well......we can take another test, right?!" So 4 hours later we took another test and sure enough...it was positive. So, of course, my first reaction was....ok, I need prenatal vitamins, and I want to buy the book "What to expect when you are expecting" and by this time Jason's head was spinning! I would say after about 5 days he started turning around...I just kept telling him....you aren't having the reaction I thought you would have.....and he just kept telling me.....you need to let it sink in a little! After it sunk in, he has been very attentive asking me about my synthroid and prenatal intake and allowing me to rest as much as possible!

Luckily my only major symptom in the first trimester was exhaustion! I never had morning sickness although in the evenings I would tend to have an unsettled tummy. Now...onto the second trimester already! We are definitely going to find out the sex of the baby, although I am thinking it is a boy....just a feeling! We are planning on moving into a bigger apartment here in the city and this time I am going to hold out for a parking space! So I believe the date we are going to find out the sex of the baby is August 31st! Here are some pics of our little one at 12 weeks....on ultrasound the baby was measuring at 13 weeks 2 days, but I think we are sticking with our original due date of January 25th, 2010.

The ultrasound was so magnified that we were able to count all 5 fingers and toes on at least a few limbs! We were able to see 2 hemispheres of the babies brain, an intact spinal cord and an enclosed abdominal cavity! Whew....looks like a healthy baby so far....we did get to listen to the heartbeat and it was pretty amazing! Still can't quite convince myself this is happening yet....even after seeing this pictures! It is just a miracle that you can be growing a life inside our your own body!

The 4th of July Celebration!

The buses were PACKED after the fireworks show was over....this is on Van Ness
we walked about 20 city blocks and then jumped onto the next bus we could find! We were packed like sardines but eventually made it home safely! I have never seen some many people flood the streets like that before!
J found a spot on top of a really really steep hill and we were able to see the entire bay, the golden gate and even Sausalito from where we were sitting!

This is not the best picture, but we were sitting right behind Ghiradelli square and you can't really tell because it is so black, but the water is right out there past the buildings!

It was a pretty chilly evening but we were set...we even brought our own strawberries and whipped cream for dessert! It was so much fun!
