october 2010 iowa visit part two
A continuation to our visit back to Iowa....
Saturday night Ty asked if I would join him as his date to Tracy's brother Dan's wedding that Kenady was a flower girl in. I was elated! Of course I would accompany him, plus another opportunity to see my little precious niece! I opted to leave Maya behind with my parents so I could focus on Ty and Kenady.
Kenady was the youngest flower girl and of course when it came time to walk down the aisle with the other flower girls, she refused. And then, all of a sudden she decided to go. She was so brave to walk down all by herself, and when she got all the way down there she took one look at everyone and turned around and darted back down the aisle! Luckily I was sitting on the aisle side of the pew and stepped out to grab her! She is a little fiesty one! She looked absolutly adorable in her outfit that her mommy made for her! I seriously need to learn how to sew. Tracy is so talented! Those flower girl dresses look like they were purchased from a high end bridal boutique!
Sunday morning Maya and I accompanied mom and dad to church in Winterset and spent the remainder of the morning packing up to go to the Silber household. We met up with mom Silber just in time to ride with to their Broadway on Baptist performances at one of their churches. Since we don't make it back often to visit Josie scored on only attending a half day of school on Monday so that all of us girls could go shopping! Mom Silber took us out for lunch at P.F. Changs and Maya took her nap in her car seat, bless her heart! After lunch we were off to the mall and we totally hit the jack-pot! The Gap just happened to be having a 40% off everything sale that day! I think we put in over 6 hours at the mall alone that day! Maya was a little trooper and passed out on the way home! The next morning we spent some time in the kitchen with grammy and learned all about her wonderful food processor. Dad Silber took Josie and I out for lunch to Famous Dave's while Maya stayed home for some quality time with grammy. Maya fell in love with dogs during our visit back home. She absolutely loved Zorro, the Silber's dog. He gave her so many kisses on her face she just giggled and giggled. After a fast two nights and 2.5 days we were headed back to my parent's house for the remainder of our stay.
I was bound and determined to do a photo shoot with the two little girls wearing their matching dresses, but I didn't realize how much of a daunting task that would be. With Maya just mobile enough with her crawling and Kenady distractable by about anything, it was a challenge to say the least to get a good picture where they are both looking and smiling at me! I bet I took a few hundred pictures over the course of a few days before I came up with a handful of keepers. My mom always watches Kenady on Wednesdays, so we got to spend all day playing. Nap time was hard to come by with two little girls who were to share the same crib! My dad was sweet enough to take some vacation time while Maya and I were visiting so we had some good quality time together.

Since we had so much fun with Kenady on Wednesday we asked to have her again on Thursday and by the end of the day we were worn out! We attempted to photograph the girls some more in there Halloween costumes. Kenady learned it was difficult to share all of her toys with Maya, and Maya got a taste of what it is going to be like when she has siblings! After a lot of playing and beautiful weather we headed into Winterset to meet up with Ty and had some yummy Breadeaux pizza with mom, dad, Kenady and Maya.
On Friday Grandpa Tweeten flew down in his plane to Winterset to spend some time with Maya and I before we headed on a jet plane back to California. At the time I had no idea it would be the last time I ever gave him a hug and a kiss. It was such a joy to watch him hold Maya and play with her. She was totally intrigued by him, and did the whole "touch your face while staring deep into your eyes" thing with him too. They were buddies. I am so so so thankful for my obsession with taking pictures because I have some really awesome last moment pictures with Grandpa. I was able to photograph him and his plane just days before he met Jesus. That totally warms my heart.
After a nice afternoon nap and some packing Maya and I were off to the Des Moines airport to say our good-byes to both sets of her grandparents. This time it was hard saying good-bye because we didn't know when we would be seeing each other again. I am slated to work the holidays and J can't get any vacation..so we had to capture as many memories as possible!
Our trip flew by in the blink of an eye.
