Our little girl has one of the brightest personalities for a little baby. She is almost always smiling and she very rarely cries. I know...this may just be a phase or something, but we are definitely enjoying it! She continues to want to sit upright, so we have been practicing. A lot of the time she ends up doing toe touches, but she will get it eventually!

I just could not resist taking this picture. I was hurriedly rushing out the door to go to work when I heard J mention that Maya just filled her pants. It is so funny to watch him in his daddy element. Her face is absolutely priceless the way she is looking directly at the camera/me like, "what in the world is going on mommy?" I also love how she is totally baring it all with her socks on. The only piece of clothing that wasn't necessary to change! Sometimes I wonder if we should have done cloth diapers since we are pretty much washing out her clothes about once a day anyways! And I definitely need to stop putting her in white! You would've thought I would have figured that one out by now.

I absolutely love how she peaks over the top of this toy bar.I need to shoot a video of her in this swing. It is pretty hilarious. She is not quite jumping all over the place just yet, but she can get pretty excited playing with the toy bar and swinging herself around.She also does this thing where she leans all the way back to rest her head and had found it very convenient to mouth the strap and the same time. And let's not forget to mention the love of those little thighs.

A visit to the Opthamologist
So, when I was about 6 months old my mom started noticing that my left eye was turning outward, especially when I was really tired. She readily took me to the Opthamologist and I was diagnosed with Amblyopia "lazy eye". In a quick non-medical nutshell my left eye's vision was never accurately transmitted through my brain to the optic nerve so my vision in that eye never fully developed. So my brain never actually recognized it was seeing anything from my left eye. When I was a little girl they tried to patch my right eye to force my left eye to see but unfortunately that treatment didn't really work for me. I have been left with 20/100 vision in my left eye which is considered legally blind. Luckily my right eye's vision is practically 20/20 and my brain only recognizes what my right eye see, so it has never been a huge issue for me. (except for when I was applying for my CA driver's license and I failed the vision test-super long story that is so annoying, I won't spare the details.)
So fast-forward to present day. I have never ever noticed that Maya's eyes or one or the other drift in or out, but I wanted to be as proactive as possible to make sure she will grow up with "normal" vision like the rest of the world. So, we went to see the opthamologist. It was really really comical to watch the doctors doing their exam on Maya. Can you imagine trying to get a 6 month old's assessment of their visual acuity?? They basically made a lot of funny sounds, flashed different lights, and used toys as distractions. The verdict is that her left eye does drift outward a teeny tiny little bit. great. So, we have a follow-up in another three months to see where she is at with her vision.
Taking her to the eye doctor brought back so many childhood memories for me. My mom always tried to make my eye doctor visits rewarding for me, since I HATED wearing a patch on my eye. My pediatric opthamologist was Dr. Pekas and just saying typing his name makes me get a lump in my throat because I loved him! He was the best and did such a good job of easing my anxiety when I was younger. Hopefully Dr. Horton is the same for my little girl. Plus, hopefully medicine has advanced some in the last 25 years! When we were there I noticed two little books about little girls who had to where patches. I couldn't resist reading them to Maya. Hopefully this all turns out to be precautionary and nothing else.
